What fixtures commonly use it
4-inch and 6-inch recessed can lights in ceilings are the primary application for BR30. The wide flood angle fills a room with diffuse light.
What it's interchangeable with
Many 6-inch cans accept both BR30 and PAR38, but PAR38 is noticeably wider. BR30 LED replaces BR30 incandescent and CFL directly.
What it's NOT interchangeable with
BR30 is not equivalent to A19 — the reflector shape and beam pattern are for directional downlighting, not general omnidirectional illumination.
Common mistakes
- Using PAR38 in a 4-inch can that only accepts BR30 — PAR38 is too wide.
- Assuming a wider BR38 fits where a BR30 was installed.
